Dr. Chiodo has a Medical Degree (M.D.) from Wayne State University School of Medicine, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Wayne State University Law School, a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from Harvard University School of Public Health, a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Wayne State University, a Master of Science in Threat Response Management (biological, chemical, and radiological defense) from the University of Chicago, a Master of Science in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences with Specialization in Industrial Toxicology from Wayne State University, a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in economics from the University of Chicago, a Master of Science in Evidence Based Health Care (evidence based medicine) from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, a Master of Science in Experimental and Translational Therapeutics (drug, vaccine, and medical device development) from the University of Oxford, and a Master of Science in Nanotechnology for Medicine and Health Care with a focus on nanoparticles and asbestos from the University of Oxford.
Certifications in Medical, Engineering and Industrial Specialties
Dr. Chiodo is board certified in the medical specialties of Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.
Internal Medicine is the medical specialty that includes diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases, neurological diseases, and cancers (oncology).
Occupational Medicine is the medical specialty most focused upon determining whether or not a work activity or activities of daily living caused a given disease. Occupational Medicine is also only one of two medical specialties that qualifies a physician to provide toxicology opinions in court.
Public Health and General Preventive medicine is the epidemiological and biostatistical specialty within medicine. Physicians that are board certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine are the type of physicians that serve as the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “Hot Zone” physicians or as medical directors of a major city or state health department.
Dr. Chiodo is also certified in the engineering and public health specialty of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (C.I.H.) in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene.
Industrial hygiene is the discipline involved in quantifying and controlling occupational and environmental hazards including nanoparticles and asbestos. Dr. Chiodo is a past president of the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society which was the first industrial hygiene organization in the United States.
Academic Contributions
Dr. Chiodo served for many years as an assistant clinical professor of internal medicine, family medicine, and public health at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He also served as an adjunct professor of industrial hygiene and toxicology at Wayne State University.
Public Health Leadership in the City of Detroit
Dr. Chiodo served as the Medical Director and Manager of Medical and Public Health Services for the City of Detroit and was the chief physician responsible for measures designed to protect the public health of over one million persons living or working in the City of Detroit at the time of his service.
His service as Medical Director of the City of Detroit was a position of substantial public responsibility. In this position he had the direct telephone number of the United States White House so that he could contact the President (Bill Clinton) if there was a serious public health emergency in Detroit requiring the immediate attention of the President.

Honors and Awards
Dr. Chiodo has been honored by the Engineering Hall of Fame of Wayne State University College of Engineering as a Distinguished Biomedical Engineer.
Dr. Chiodo received the rare honor of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Wayne State University started in 1868 as a medical school. Wayne State University School of Medicine is the largest single campus medical school in the United States of America. There have been tens of thousands of medical graduates of Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Chiodo was only the 135th graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine to receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Professional Memberships
Dr. Chiodo is a member of the Society of Toxicology.
Dr. Chiodo served on the Environmental Law Council of the State Bar of Michigan and was the Chairman of the Environmental Litigation and Administrative Practice Committee of the Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
Dr. Chiodo has also served as an adjunct professor of law at John Marshall Law School and Loyola University Law School in Chicago where he taught toxic tort law.
